How we improve
Every level teaches us something.
Programmes here are not written once and forgotten. Each level feeds evidence back into the next one, through a loop that is deliberately short and repeats after every intake.
The loop, in one line
Place Run Mark Sit Publish Place
One lap around takes about twelve weeks. The published facts and the teaching rules both move only when the lap is complete.
The lap
Five stations between two intakes.
- 1 Place
Each intake opens with placement checks, so the first data point of a level is where learners actually stand, not where they hoped.
- 2 Run
Weeks of sessions with one Cohort and one Instructor produce marked work, spoken answers, and questions worth writing down.
- 3 Mark
The level ends in a marked assessment. Weak spots arrive as patterns across a room, not as one learner’s bad week.
- 4 Sit
Learners who choose external exams are graded by boards outside this school. Those results are the bluntest feedback available.
- 5 Publish
Once a Cohort closes, its outcomes are checked and refreshed yearly. Anything unconfirmed goes back to admissions before it goes on a page.
Station five feeds straight back into station one: the next intake starts with better-placed learners.
The evidence
Four sources, and the limits of each.
- Placement checks
- Tells us
Shows where every Cohort actually starts and whether the entry level is honest. - Does not tell us
Says nothing about how far someone can go. That is decided by the twelve weeks after it. - End-of-level assessments
- Tells us
Reveals which skills held across the room and which need more time in the next level. - Does not tell us
Stops at the door of the room. It measures the level taught, not the world outside it. - External exam sittings
- Tells us
Puts a Cohort in front of a standard nobody here writes, marks, or curves. - Does not tell us
Only speaks for the learners who choose to sit, which is never presented as everyone. - Yearly Cohort outcomes
- Tells us
Keeps every published number tied to a Cohort that has closed and a count that has been checked. - Does not tell us
Arrive before the Cohort closes. Nothing gets published on hope.
The slow part, on purpose.
A level runs about twelve weeks, and learners finish what they started. Changes that come out of the loop land between levels, never in the middle of one. Nothing here swaps the rules on a Cohort halfway to its assessment.
